The Academy Awards may be a chance to for the biggest stars to dress up and celebrate the best that cinema has to offer, but for Indian actress Freida Pinto, it was also a chance to give back to society. The actress, who shot to fame with the Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire, has been steadily working in Hollywood and took the opportunity that the Oscars offered to feed the hungry. Every year at the after-party of the glamorous awards show, top chefs put together a lavish dinner for the stars that often goes to waste.

One of the parties is the famed Governor's Ball, which had been prepared by top chef, Wolfgang Puck.

The actress took to Instagram to explain that she had teamed up with a non-profit organisation in California called Copia to round up excess food and have that delivered to poverty stricken regions. A total of 800 people were fed as a result of these efforts.

The actress, is known for her humanitarian work having championed several social causes over the years. Most recently in 2016, she announced that she, along with prominent actresses from the West, would be starting a not-for-profit organisation that helps produce and develop cinema that empowers women.
